Updated: 4 Nov 2026Content: Reč i pečat
Short answer

In Serbia, a certified (sworn) translation is made by a court-appointed interpreter, called a sudski tumač, who confirms with a seal and signature that the translation matches the original. Send a clear scan or photo of your document and we will reply with the price and the deadline. The institution receiving the document decides exactly what it accepts.

What is a certified translation in Serbia?

A court-appointed interpreter (sudski tumač) is appointed by the Ministry of Justice and entered in the official register. Their translations carry a seal and signature confirming that the translation faithfully matches the original. Serbian courts, ministries, notaries and many embassies ask for this type of translation. Words you may see used for the same service are sworn translator, court interpreter, official translator and certified translation.

Documents foreigners most often need translated

  • marriage and birth certificates
  • police clearance and other certificates
  • diplomas, transcripts and school records
  • contracts, powers of attorney and property documents
  • driving licences and vehicle registration
  • medical records and insurance documents
  • company registration and business documents

How it works, step by step

Send the document

Email a clear scan or phone photo of every page, including the back and any stamps.

Get the price and deadline

We review the document and tell you the price, the time needed and whether an apostille is relevant.

Translation and certification

The document is translated, checked and certified with the interpreter's seal and signature.

Receive it

Collect the translation in person in New Belgrade, or receive it by post or electronically, depending on what the receiving institution accepts.

Apostille and legalization

Documents going abroad may also need an apostille under the Hague Convention. Whether the apostille is added before or after translation depends on the destination country and the receiving institution, so confirm it with them first. Our Serbian-language guide on this is here.

Interpreting at the notary, the court or a wedding

We also provide consecutive interpreting for English and Serbian at notaries, civil registries, courts, bank appointments and business meetings. Tell us the date and place in advance.

Where we are

Our office is at Dr Ivana Ribara 54, New Belgrade (Novi Beograd), serving clients across Belgrade and the rest of Serbia. Most of the work can be done remotely: you send the document, we send back the finished translation.

Not legal advice: we translate and certify. Whether a document is accepted, and in what form, is decided by the institution that receives it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a sworn translation from Serbia accepted abroad?
It depends on the receiving country and institution. Many accept a translation certified by a court-appointed interpreter, some also ask for an apostille. Ask the institution what exactly they require, then we prepare it accordingly.
Do I need to come to your office?
Not for a quote: a scan or photo is enough. For the final certified copy you can collect it in person or have it sent by post, depending on what the institution accepts.
How long does a certified translation take?
Standard turnaround is usually 24–48 hours depending on volume, and urgent same-day work is possible by arrangement. Send the document and your deadline for a precise answer.
Can you translate documents from languages other than English?
Our specialization is English ↔ Serbian. For other languages, contact a court interpreter for that specific language.
Can you interpret at the notary or the registry office?
Yes, interpreting at notaries, civil registries, courts and business meetings is part of our service. Tell us the date and place beforehand.
